About the project:

Greenlink is an underground and subsea electricity interconnector linking the power markets in Britain and Ireland. As part of this project, a Greenlink converter station and substation will be created in Pembrokeshire, with underground cabling routed across agricultural land.

Our role in the project:

Here at Enviroply Roofing we will be installing the roofing system for the Greenlink Converter Station. This will be a warm roofing build that is fully adhered and created for maximum longevity.

We will begin this roofing build up by installing the Vapour Control Layer (VCL). For this we will be using the IKO Ultra Self Adhesive Air and Vapour control layer, installed to the manufacturer’s specifications and guidelines. This is a VCL that has a robust aluminium core, and is reinforced with a tough, polyester base. The VCL is also coated with a polymer modified bitumen, which is protected on the underside with a release film backing and has a fine mineral finish on the top surface. This design provides increased water resistance and prevents the passage and penetration of water for maximum condensation and roof moisture protection.

On top of the VCL we will be installing the insulation layer. For this we will be using the Rockwool Tapered Scheme. This will allow the correct roofing gradient to be achieved, while also providing a highly efficient, top quality insulation system. This insulation option is tissue faced to maximise thermal efficiency and prevent heat loss and waste.

Finally, we will be installing the IKO Armourplan PSG membrane. This will be installed on top of both the vapour control layer and the insulation layer to create a practical and efficient warm roofing system. As one of the leading single ply membranes on the market, the IKO Armourplan PSG membrane is designed for complete UV stability and also offers enhanced mechanical properties. This is a glass tissue reinforced polyester fleece backed membrane that is perfect for the sloping roof design being created here. For the Greenlink converter station, this membrane will bring a number of advantages, including increased durability, improved product performance and a sleek and stylish finish.
