About the Project:
For this project we were hired to install the roof on a new building under construction for Cronton College. This building had been designed for use as a theatre, with part of the lower roof extending to create a larger canteen area.
Key challenges:
There were several challenges associated with this project, including:
- Cutting around over 40no square plinths and flashing them.
- Upstands over 3m high and roofing on top of high machinery.
- Dressing into steel to make the roof watertight.
- Working in confined spaces to seal the roof.
The System:
For this roofing project we installed a Sarnafil roofing system using a Sarnavap 500e as a vapour control barrier. This is flexible when cold, resistant to chemicals and ageing, as well as being completely rot proof, providing lasting roof protection.
For the insulation we opted for Tapered Tissue Faced Rockwool insulation board. This is a great option to prevent standing water and ponding issues on flat roofs, particularly those with plinths, like the roof at Cronton College, where water drainage may otherwise be partially obstructed. The Rockwool insulation board was the best choice for this project as this delivers high quality thermal performance, with effective rain management and reduced sound pollution. This is also non-combustible and incredibly durable for a roof that is built to last.
We installed a Sarnafil G410-15ELF fleeceback Membrane in lead grey, using a fully adhered system. This type of membrane is designed to be dynamically stable, with no shrinkage, and an incredibly long lifespan.
The project was finished with a trim finish to the parapet which provides a fully encapsulated finish over the parapet.
The Result:
This roofing project was finished ahead of schedule showing an excellent standard of workmanship. The completed roof passed all inspections, including electronic testing, and meets the manufacturers requirements for the 25 year guarantee. In fact, the manufacturer commented on a “lovely job”. The client was also very happy with the finished result.
