Sika Sikaplan Single Ply Roofing Systems

What is Sika Sikaplan Roofing?

Sika Sikaplan is a range of synthetic single-ply waterproofing membranes, including PVC membranes designed for different flat roofing applications.

The membranes are available in a range of thicknesses and constructions, with options for mechanically fixed or adhered installations. The appropriate system depends on the roof design, substrate, insulation build-up and project specification.
Sikaplan membranes use hot-air welding to form secure joints without the need for an open flame. This allows the membrane sheets to be joined to create a continuous waterproofing layer across the roof.

Sika Sikaplan Roofing Systems

Sika offers several Sikaplan PVC roofing membranes, each designed for particular installation methods and applications.

It is resistant to permanent UV exposure and wind exposure, with hot-air-welded joints that provide a secure waterproofing system.

Sikaplan SGK-15 – Adhered Roofing

Sikaplan SGK-15 is a PVC roofing membrane with a glass non-woven inlay and polyester fleece backing. It is designed for partially adhered roof applications using the appropriate Sika adhesive.

The fleece backing can also allow compatibility with certain existing bituminous roof surfaces, subject to the specified system build-up and substrate requirements.

Sikaplan SGK-18 – Adhered Roofing

Sikaplan SGK-18 is a multi-layer PVC membrane designed for fully bonded, exposed roof applications. It can be specified for suitable substrates, including certain existing bituminous membranes, concrete, metal decking and approved insulation boards.

The correct adhesive and substrate preparation must follow Sika’s current installation requirements.

The specific membrane selected for a project will depend on the roof construction, intended use and manufacturer specification.

The Benefits of Sika Sikaplan Roofing

Durable Waterproofing

Sikaplan membranes are designed to provide reliable protection against water ingress and the effects of weather exposure when installed as part of the specified roofing system.

UV and Weather Resistance

Suitable exposed-roof membranes are designed to withstand permanent UV exposure and common environmental influences.

Secure Hot-Air-Welded Joints

Hot-air welding creates secure joints between membrane sheets without the use of open flames, helping to form a continuous waterproofing layer.

Flexible Installation Options

With mechanically fixed and adhered membrane options, the Sikaplan range can accommodate different roof constructions and project requirements.

Lightweight Roof Construction

Single-ply membranes provide waterproofing without the weight associated with some traditional multi-layer roofing systems. The complete roof build-up must still meet the structural and performance requirements of the project.

New Build and Refurbishment

Depending on the membrane and substrate, Sikaplan systems can be specified for new-build developments and suitable refurbishment projects.

Where is Sika Sikaplan Roofing Used?

Sikaplan membranes are designed for exposed flat roof applications, including a variety of commercial and industrial buildings.

Typical projects may include:

  • Commercial offices and business premises
  • Industrial units and warehouses
  • Educational buildings
  • Healthcare facilities
  • Retail and leisure buildings
  • New-build developments
  • Suitable flat roof refurbishment projects

The membrane and installation method must be selected to suit the roof design and project specification.
