About the project at the Lord Clive

The new housing development at Mersey Drive, Whitefield involved the demolition of the Lord Clive Public House and transforming the site into 27 one and two-bedroom apartments for affordable rent, in association with Onward Homes. The site has created 21 one-bedroom apartments and 6 two-bedroom apartments, developed to a very high standard and available for an affordable renting cost.

The system

Due to our high level of roofing expertise, we were selected to install the roof for the new apartments being created on this site. A Warm Roof, Mechanically Fixed, Single Ply Roofing system was chosen due to its high performance, efficiency and longevity.

The first stage of the project involved installing the Vapour Control Layer, for which we used the Sarnavap 5000E Self-Adhesive model. As a flexible and non-decaying Vapour Control Layer Membrane, this is a top-quality product with a high level of water vapour resistance. This was Adhered directly onto the new plywood roof deck, with seams and ends continuously joined for thorough moisture protection.

Following on from the VCL, we then installed the Insulation Layer. For this we used Sikatherm PIR AL Insulation Boards. These were installed in a staggered bond pattern in line with the manufacturer’s guidelines. Each board was Mechanically Fastened in place using telescopic tube fasteners for maximum security and positioning. The boards are excellent for insulating buildings like apartment blocks because they are faced on both sides with aluminum foil and offer a high level of strength as well as a very low level of thermal conductivity.

For the final stage of the roof installation and to complete the roof build up we installed the Sika Sarnafil S327-15EL Single Ply Membrane. Top of the performance charts and one of the most popular Single Ply Membranes available for commercial and domestic properties, we chose this option for its proven high performance and longevity. Made from premium-quality polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which is polyester reinforced, the membrane offers a high level of UV resistant and flame retardant, as well as being fully weatherproof. This includes providing a high level of wind resistance. This membrane was Mechanically Fastened into position.

The result

On completion of the roofing works, a field inspection was carried out. This found that the roof was completed to a very high standard and met all of the requirements for a long guarantee in line with manufacturer’s guidelines.
