About the project at Campbell Street

The Campbell Street development has created 60 new and affordable homes for rent. These include 48 apartments and 12 houses, with a rent rate that is 20% lower than the local average. This development is in line with Bolton at Home’s pledge to deliver more affordable housing in the area.

The system

Our role in this project here at Enviroply Roofing was to install the separate roof systems for each new apartment block. For both block one and block two the same roofing system was selected for installation due to the suitability for local environmental factors, as well as visual and practical benefits. As such, each roof was created with a Single Ply, Mechanically Fixed, Warm Roofing system.

To begin the installation, we first installed the Vapour Control Layer for which we used the Sarnavap 5000E on both roofs. This is a Self-Adhesive backed Bituminous VCL that was Adhered directly to the roof deck, using a water filled pressure roller. All end laps and seals were continuously sealed to ensure maximum protection. The Sarnavap 5000E membrane offers full flexibility and a high level of water vapour resistance. It is also non decaying and has been proven to be incredibly durable. This makes it the perfect option for the new apartments at Campbell Street.

Once the VCL was fully installed, the next stage was to install the Insulation. For each new roof we used Sikatherm PIR AL Insulation Boards. These are designed to offer maximum thermal insulation and are faced on each side with aluminum foil to reduce thermal conductivity to a minute level. These boards also offer a high level of strength and are installed in a staggered bond pattern with lightly butted joints, fastened with telescopic tube fasteners

Finally, a Sika Sarnafil S327-15EL Single Ply Membrane was installed for each roof, to complete the roofing system. This is one of the most popular of the Sika Sarnafil Single Ply Membrane options, as it offers a high level of performance and longevity. Made from premium-quality polyvinyl chloride (PVC) that has been polyester reinforced, the membrane can provide full weatherproof protection as well as a high level of flame retardant, wind resistance and UV resistance. The membrane was Mechanically Fixed into place for maximum protection and security.

The Result:

All of the roofing works were tested, and a field inspection carried out on completion of the project. The roofing systems on each of the apartment blocks both passed, and the roof installation achieved the required standards for a lengthy guarantee.
