About the Project:

Due to increased parking pressures experienced at the hospital, Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) have received permission to create a multi-storey car park (MSCP). This will significantly improve overall car parking capacity at the infirmary, providing 356 spaces within the MSCP for patients and visitors and 64 surface level car parking spaces for staff.

Our Role in the Project

Here at Enviroply Roofing Ltd we will be installing a number of high-quality IKO Armourplan roofing systems for the Wigan NHS development. All of these systems will be the same, using the same materials and build up process.

Air and Vapour Control Layer

To protect the structure from moisture ingress and manage the risk of condensation, we will begin by installing the IKO Spectravap PE Air and Vapour Control Layer (AVCL). This will be loosely laid, with the side and head laps sealed using Spectravap Jointing Tape to create a continuous vapour barrier across the roof area. All penetrations and upstands will be fully sealed, ensuring the integrity of the system. This layer is essential to prevent moisture build-up within the layers of the roofing system, safeguarding the roofing system.

Insulation

Next, we will install an IKO Enertherm Tapered PIR insulation scheme to create the correct falls for drainage in accordance with BS 6229 requirements. The insulation boards will be mechanically fastened, ensuring stability and long-term performance. By using a tapered system, we will achieve effective water runoff, preventing ponding and ensuring the longevity of the waterproofing system. All joints will be closely butted and taped where necessary to maintain thermal integrity and reduce the risk of cold bridging.

Waterproofing Membrane

The main waterproofing layer will consist of IKO Armourplan PSG, a high-performance PVC membrane. This will be adhered using Spectrabond Low Foaming PU Adhesive, providing a secure and seamless bond to the insulation layer. All laps and detailing will be hot-air welded to form a continuous, watertight finish. This membrane offers proven durability, unrestricted fire performance in compliance with Building Regulations Part B.

Finishing and Detailing

We will complete all perimeter details, upstands, and penetrations using IKO Armourplan accessories and preformed trims to provide a neat, secure, and watertight solution. We will also install maintenance walkways where required, using Armourplan Walkway Membrane for safe access.
