Here at Enviroply Roofing, we are delighted to be working with Robinson Construction on the Pope Lane development in Penwortham, where we will be installing a Sikaplan roofing system.
Project: Pope Lane, Penwortham
Address: Pope Lane, Penwortham
Architects: Makerfield Design Partnership
Contractor: Robinson Construction
Roof size: 652m2
Roof system: Sikaplan G18 Lead Grey, 20 Year Guarantee
Installation: 150mm PIR, 500e
About the Project:
This project will transform the previously vacant former pub site on Pope Lane into a small retail development. This includes plans for the construction of three new commercial units designed to support local businesses and bring the area back into active use. The scheme forms part of wider investment in the local area and will replace a site that has remained empty for several years, helping to improve the appearance of the street and provide new retail opportunities for the community.
Our role in the Project:
For the new retail development at 97 Pope Lane, Penwortham, our team at Enviroply Roofing will deliver a high-performance Sikaplan single-ply roofing system designed to provide long-term waterproofing protection, meet current UK building standards, and support the long-term durability of the new build retail units.
Air and Vapour Control Layer
We will begin by preparing the roof structure and installing a high-performance air and vapour control layer to create a secure and airtight foundation for the full roofing build-up.
The system will incorporate S-Vap 500 E, which is designed to help regulate moisture movement within the roof structure while reducing the risk of condensation forming within the insulation layer. This will be installed carefully across the full roof area to ensure continuity at laps, junctions, and perimeter details.
By installing a reliable air and vapour barrier at the early stage of the works, the roof system will be protected against long-term moisture-related issues, helping to improve both the performance and lifespan of the completed roof.
Insulation
To achieve the required thermal performance for the new retail units, we will install Sikatherm PIR insulation.
This insulation system has been selected for its excellent thermal efficiency, lightweight structure, and long-term durability. The boards will be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidance, ensuring a consistent fit across the roof areas and supporting the overall energy efficiency of the new development.
The insulation will also provide a strong and stable base for the waterproofing membrane while contributing to improved energy performance for the building once the project is complete.
Waterproof Membrane
The roof will then be fully waterproofed using Sikaplan G-18, a reinforced PVC single-ply membrane that has been specifically designed for mechanically fixed roofing systems.
This membrane has been selected for the project due to its proven long-term performance and its resistance to UV exposure, wind uplift, and environmental conditions. The membrane will be installed carefully across the roof areas and securely fixed in line with the specification to create a fully watertight roofing system.
Once completed, the waterproofing layer will provide a durable and reliable finish that is suitable for a modern commercial retail development and capable of delivering long-term performance with minimal maintenance.
Detailing
We will complete all roof detailing to a high standard, including penetrations, upstands, perimeters, and drainage areas.
We will carry out detailed work to penetrations, upstands, perimeter edges, and drainage points using compatible Sikaplan accessories. These elements play a key role in preventing water ingress and ensuring that the roof performs effectively in all weather conditions.
Drainage outlets and critical junctions will be completed in line with the Sika specification to ensure the finished roof is fully sealed, weatherproof, and free-draining.
Quality and Compliance
All works will be carried out in line with the full Sika technical specification and in accordance with current UK roofing standards and installation guidance.
Once the project is complete, the roofing system will be eligible for a 20-year Sika product guarantee, providing reassurance that the materials used meet the required performance standards.
