We are delighted to be working again with Conlon Construction on the EZ Sports Facility, a new development at the Blackpool Enterprise Zone.
Address: Squires Gate Lane, Blackpool, FY4 2QY
Architects: Cassidy + Ashton
Contractor: Conlon Construction
Roof size: 910m2
Roof system: IKO Armourplan P Membrane, Spectravap PE Vapour Control Layer,
Enertherm GOLD PIR Insulation
Installation: Mechanically Fixed
About the project:
Once completed, the EZ Sports Facility will be a brand new £5m sports village at Blackpool Enterprise Zone. Off Common Edge Road in Marton, Blackpool, the development site is 35 acres in total, on which a number of sporting facilities will be created. This will include:
- a Single-Storey 675m2 changing and spectator facility
- a 3G sports pitch
- replacement grass rugby pitch and training area
- existing car park redevelopment and extension
- access road alterations
As the flagship project for the redevelopment of the wider 355-acre Blackpool Enterprise Zone, the EZ Sports Facility is the first stage of a £28.8m investment in this area. This investment is set to increase to £70m over the next 25 years, with the aim of attracting 140 businesses and creating 5,000 jobs.
The EZ Sports Facility is going to provide top quality, highly valuable sporting facilities that will bring immense benefit to the local community, including local sporting teams and youth teams, such as the Spirit of Youth Junior Football Club, which currently has 250 registered players.
Our role in the EZ Sports Facility project:
Here at Enviroply Roofing, we will be creating a Mechanically Fixed roof for the EZ Sports Facility.
The first stage of this project will be the installation of the vapour control layer. This is the layer responsible for reducing the flow of moisture into and through the roof, preventing condensation build ups and problems with rotting and decomposition. As such, we will be installing the IKO Spectravap PE. This is a vapour control layer that provides significant moisture protection and control and is also a cost-effective choice. The Spectravap PE vapour control layer will be loosely laid with the side and end laps, as well as the edges around upstands and kerbs, being overlapped and sealed with Spectravap Jointing Tape.
For the next stage of the installation, we will be installing the insulation. Insulation is a crucial component for any roof, as this determines the thermal efficiency of the building, preventing heat from being lost through the large open roof space. For the EZ Sports Facility we will be installing the Enertherm GOLD PIR Insulation. This is an insulation board option with seven different layers that when combined into the single product offer maximum thermal efficiency. This insulation board is clad on both sides with a multi-layer gastight aluminum complex which dramatically increases thermal efficiency. Enertherm GOLD PIR insulation is a simple choice for this roofing project as this is an insulation product that provides more stability than other PIR options due to the increased compression strength, as well as lower lambda values. Ultimately, this means that more effective thermal performance can be achieved, with less insulation.
Finally, to complete the roof of the EZ Sports Facility we will be installing the IKO Armourplan P Single Ply Membrane. The role of the Single Ply membrane is to provide a high quality visual and practical waterproofing membrane to complete the construction of a warm roofing project. This is installed on top of the insulation and vapour control layer to secure the roof from weather and the impact of animals. As one of the highest quality membranes available, the IKO Armourplan P provides a high level of UV stability throughout, while also offering robust, increased tensile strength and a high level of product performance. This will be mechanically fixed into place to finish the roofing project.
