About the Project:
The Pope Lane development has transformed the site of a former vacant public house into a modern retail destination, creating three new commercial units designed to support local businesses and serve the surrounding community.
Replacing a site that had remained unused for several years, the completed development has brought the area back into active use while also providing high-quality retail space for future occupiers.
Our Role in the Project:
Here at Enviroply Roofing, we installed a complete, mechanically fixed, Sikaplan single-ply roofing system across the new retail development, delivering a durable waterproofing solution designed to provide long-term weather protection, excellent thermal performance and full compliance with current UK roofing standards.
Air and Vapour Control Layer
Following preparation of the roof deck, a S-Vap 500 E Air and Vapour Control Layer was installed across the full roof area to create a continuous barrier against moisture movement within the roof construction.
The membrane was carefully laid to maintain continuity at all laps, junctions and perimeter details, helping to minimise the risk of interstitial condensation while protecting the insulation and structural deck from long-term moisture ingress.
Insulation
To achieve the required thermal performance for the new retail units, Sikatherm® PIR AL insulation was installed throughout the roof build-up.
This high-performance polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation was selected for its excellent thermal efficiency, lightweight construction and long-term stability. The insulation boards were mechanically fixed in accordance with the project specification, creating a strong and consistent substrate for the waterproofing membrane while contributing to the overall energy efficiency of the completed development.
Waterproof Membrane
The completed roof was waterproofed using Sikaplan® G-18 in Lead Grey, a polyester-reinforced, multi-layer PVC single-ply membrane specifically designed for mechanically fixed roofing systems.
Mechanically fixed using a lap-fixed system, the membrane provides outstanding resistance to permanent UV exposure, wind uplift and the effects of everyday environmental conditions. Manufactured to BS EN 13956 and certified by the BBA, Sikaplan® G-18 also offers excellent watertightness, durability and long-term performance.
All membrane joints were hot-air welded to create strong, homogeneous seams, producing a fully sealed waterproof layer without the use of naked flames and ensuring reliable protection across the entire roof area.
Detailing
Particular attention was given to all roof detailing to ensure a fully weatherproof and durable finish throughout the project.
Upstands, penetrations and perimeter details were completed using compatible Sikaplan® SG-15 and Sikaplan® D-18 accessories, together with Sikaplan® Metal perimeter trims to provide secure edge detailing and a neat architectural finish.
Drainage was completed using SikaRoof® S-Drain outlets and SikaRoof® S-Scupper systems, ensuring efficient rainwater management and fully integrated waterproof connections. Membrane restraint was achieved using SikaRoof® S-Bar where required, while all welded joints and critical details were completed in accordance with the Sika technical specification to deliver a roof that is fully sealed, weatherproof and free-draining.
Project Outcome
All roofing works were completed in accordance with the full Sika technical specification and current UK roofing standards by trained installers using approved installation methods.
Upon completion, the roofing system met all performance standards for a 20-Year Sika Product Guarantee. Combined with the quality of workmanship delivered by Enviroply Roofing, the completed installation provides a robust, reliable roofing solution that will protect the new retail development for many years to come.
