About the project:
A series of extensions were carried out at Hopwood Hall College and University Centre, spanning three campus locations: the Henry West Building, the Technical Centre, and the Technical Centre Annex. These developments aimed to expand capacity through the addition of specialist teaching workshops, classrooms, storage areas, staff facilities, meeting rooms, toilets, and circulation spaces, all contributing to a more modern and effective learning environment for students.
Included in the project were several new construction and refurbishment elements, such as:
⦁ The enlargement of the existing Refectory linked to the Henry West Building
⦁ A newly built extension to both the Technical Centre and the Technical Centre Annex, along with the addition of a new waste management facility, and internal refurbishments and modifications within the existing Annex
⦁ A new extension constructed at the rear of the Annex
To minimise disruption to college teaching and learning activities, the entire development was delivered in a phased manner.
Our role in the project:
At Enviroply Roofing, recognised as leading specialists in the roofing industry, we carried out the installation of the new roofing system at Hopwood Hall College and University Centre. This system comprised a Sika Sarnafil G410-15EL Lead Grey membrane, a Sarnavap 500E Air and Vapour Control Layer (AVCL), and a Sikatherm PIR GT Insulation Layer. To ensure maximum durability and long-term performance these were all mechanically fixed into position. We began the installation on 06/06/2022.
The installation began with the Sarnavap 500E Air and Vapour Control Layer. This component, known for its excellent water vapour resistance, flexibility, and robust durability, was secured directly onto the roof deck using mechanical fixings.
Once the VCL was in place, the insulation layer followed. For this particular project, the Sikatherm PIR GT Insulation was selected. This lightweight yet tough and durable board features a coated glass tissue facing on both sides, bonded to the core, providing reliable thermal performance.
To complete the roofing system, the Single Ply membrane was then installed. The Sika Sarnafil G410-15EL Lead Grey membrane is a multi-layer solution renowned for its waterproofing capabilities and resistance to weathering . This was mechanically fixed over both the AVCL and the insulation, providing a robust and long-lasting finish.
The result:
This project went well and was completed to a high standard on the 25/10/2022, to achieve a 20-year guarantee.
