About the project:

The Kara Street development is a new eco-friendly housing project in Salford. This will involve the development of a range of homes and apartments on two brownfield sites off Kara Street and Liverpool Street in Seedley South. These properties will be a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes, plus one and two-bedroom apartments, with more than 90 of the new homes being developed for social housing, homes for affordable rent, and properties for shared ownership, as well as for outright sale.

These properties offer a unique market for families in Salford, as these are all designed to be incredibly eco-friendly. Each home will include a range of sustainable features including electric car charging points, bike storage, low energy, and light infused spaces.

Our role in the project:

Our role in the Kara Street project, will be to install an efficient and long-lasting Warm roofing system.

The first part of the Warm roofing system is the Vapour Control Layer. We will be installing the Alumasc Self-Adhesive VCL. This is a polyester reinforced, modified Bitumen Vapour Barrier with an aluminium core and a fine mineral surface. Designed with maximum water resistance in mind, it is a robust and durable VCL that provides good protection from condensation and moisture.

Once the VCL has been installed, the next stage will be to install the Insulation. Effective insulation helps to keep the property thermally efficient and prevents heat loss, and that’s what the Recticel 200mm foil faced insulation offers. This is a high-performance insulation board with foam facing to both sides. The core is made from expanded Polyisocyanurate which is one of the leading materials for roof insulation and is specifically designed to reduce heat loss.

To complete the project, we will be installing the Alumasc Renolit Alkorplan Dark Grey membrane. This is a Single Ply membrane that will provide waterproofing, and UV protection for the entire roofing system. It will be Mechanically Fixed into place to ensure maximum security and minimal movement. The Alumasc Renolit Alkorplan is made from multiple layers of thermoplastic and has a proven record for durability and longevity.
