About the Burnley College University Building Refurbishment:

The Burnley College University Building has recently been refurbished, with the creation of three new floors added to the top of an existing single story building. This provided much needed space for teaching, breakout rooms, storage, and a new server room, without increasing the footprint of the building. Due to a steady rise in student numbers over recent years, this refurbishment was much needed, as the old facilities were close to reaching capacity.

With the new development, the Burnley College University Building is now greatly improved, with plenty of space for the growing cohort.

Our Role In The Project:

As the North West’s leading single ply roofing experts, here at Enviroply Roofing, we installed the new Sikaplan roofing systems for the Burnley College University Building. This involved installing both a main roof and a large and small canopy roof. We began the installation on (date).

Starting with the build up for the main roof, we began with the Sarnavap 500E Air and Vapour Control Layer (AVCL). Widely regarded as a dependable choice across many building applications, this flexible and long lasting AVCL offers outstanding resistance to water vapour. The Sarnavap 500E plays a key role in safeguarding the roofing system by preventing the accumulation of water vapour, which can otherwise cause the gradual deterioration of roofing materials. In doing so, it helps to enhance both the durability and overall lifespan of the roof.

Following the AVCL, we then installed tapered Sarnatherm insulation for the next layer of the roofing build up. This was installed in line with manufacturer’s guidelines to create the perfect roofing gradient, to allow rain water to be redirected from the roof and into the correct drainage channels. This prevents water from building up on the roof, and keeps the roofing structure safe. In addition to preventing standing water problems, this type of insulation also offers effective thermal properties, reducing heat loss in winter and heat gain in the summer, to help reduce the energy usage of the building.

We completed the main roof by installing the Sikaplan SG 1.8mm single ply membrane. This single ply membrane has a proven track record in the industry for its high performance rate, and strong resistance to permanent UV radiation. It also boasts strong wind resistance, and high water vapour permeability, making it highly durable and resistant to all environmental challenges and weather conditions. Designed with an inlay of glass fleece, this is a highly stable and effective single ply membrane option, perfect for long lasting performance.

As well as the main roof, we also installed a large and small canopy roof. We used the same materials and roofing build up for each canopy roof.

We began the canopy roof installation with the AVCL, for which we again used the Sarnavap 500E, thanks to its design quality, durability, and longevity. This was mechanically fastened into place to secure the roofing system.

For the canopy roof insulation layer, we again installed Sarnatherm PIR insulation, as this has a proven record for quality and performance.

Finally, we completed the roofing build up of the large and small canopy roofs with the installation of the Sikaplan SGK 1.8mm single ply membrane. With significant UV resistance, performance stability, and longevity, this waterproofing membrane is designed with a glass fleece inlay and is perfect for roof canopies.
