About the project:
Due to a rising birth rate and significant housing development in the area, increasing the number of pupils, Bowland High School was in need of a larger accommodation area. Alongside modifying the existing accommodation internally, an additional accommodation block was created. This has provided an additional 150 secondary school places in the Ribble Valley East planning area.
Our role in the project:
Here at Enviroply Roofing, we installed the new Sikaplan, mechanically fixed roofing systems for the new accommodation built at Bowland High School. This included a main roof and an upper roof. The installation began on 10/04/24 .
We began the roofing installation with the Air and Vapour Control Layer (AVCL). For the Bowland High School project, we used the Sarnavap 500E. This bituminous membrane is foil faced for maximum performance, providing a high level of water vapour resistance. This is necessary for protecting the rest of the roof structure from the damage caused by water vapour or condensation. In addition, the Sarnavap 500E also boasts an impressive amount of durability and flexibility, exceptional fire safety and a long life span, making it the perfect choice for the new accommodation block.
Following the AVCL, we then installed the insulation layer. For this project, for both the main and lower roof, tapered Sarnatherm insulation was used. This is an insulation option that provides a very high level of thermal insulation, and has a long industry record for quality and longevity. This high level of performance is achieved through the central foam core and fibre reinforced felt facers. By being tapered to be wider at one end than the other, this insulation layer created the perfect gradient for the roofing systems, allowing rainwater to be directed to the appropriate drainage channels on both the main and lower roof. These insulation boards were mechanically fixed into place, in line with the industry guidelines.
Finally, we completed both the main and lower roofing systems with the installation of the Sikaplan SG 1.5m single ply membrane. This is a single ply membrane with a high performance rate, and a resistance to permanent UV radiation. With an inlay of glass fleece, this is a highly stable and effective single ply membrane option, with a high level of water resistance. Its robust and long lasting design made this the perfect option for the Bowland High School development.
The result at Bowland High School
The roofing installation for both the main and lower roof at Bowland High School was completed to a very high standard on 10/06/24 . All parties were happy with the roofing system and the criteria for a 20 year guarantee was achieved.
