Here at Enviroply Roofing, we are delighted to be working with Carefoot Ltd to install a new Protan roofing system for the King David’s High School development in Liverpool.
Project: King David’s High School
Address: Liverpool
Architects: Cassidy & Ashton
Contractor: Carefoot Ltd
Roof system: Protan Self-Adhesive Bituminous Vapour Control Layer, Kingspan by Protan Polyisocyanurate (PIR) Insulation, Protan SE Reinforced PVC Membrane (1.6mm, Dark Grey)
Installation: Mechanically fixed
Our role in the project:
Here at Enviroply Roofing, we will be installing a complete Protan warm roof system across the new flat roof areas.
Air and Vapour Control Layer
The first stage of the build-up will be the installation of the Air and Vapour Control Layer (AVCL). For this project, we will be using the Protan self-adhesive bituminous vapour control membrane. This layer is essential in preventing moisture from entering the roof structure and reducing the risk of condensation. All laps and junctions will be fully sealed to ensure a continuous, airtight barrier.
Insulation Layer
Following this, we will install Kingspan by Protan PIR insulation boards. These rigid insulation boards will be tapered to achieve the required U-value of 0.11 W/m²K, delivering excellent thermal efficiency and helping to regulate internal temperatures throughout the year.
Waterproof Membrane
To complete the system, we will install the Protan SE single ply membrane. This reinforced PVC membrane features a textured, slip-resistant surface and is mechanically fixed in accordance with manufacturer specifications. All joints will be hot-air welded to create a fully sealed, weatherproof finish.
Detailing
We will complete all roof detailing to a high standard, including penetrations, upstands, perimeters, and drainage areas.
Particular attention will be given to all junctions and interfaces, using compatible Protan system components such as prefabricated pipe collars, laminated metal trims, and ProJual rainwater outlets. These elements are essential in maintaining the integrity of the waterproofing system and preventing water ingress.
All roof penetrations will be sealed using Protan prefabricated pipe collars, which will be heat welded to the membrane to provide a durable and fully watertight finish.
Perimeter edges, kerbs, and upstands will be formed using Protan laminated metal trims, ensuring secure termination of the membrane and a neat, robust edge detail. Mechanical fixings, including thermally broken fasteners, will be installed in accordance with manufacturer requirements to maintain system performance.
Drainage details will be completed using Protan ProJual rainwater outlets, with all connections carefully sealed and integrated into the membrane system to ensure the roof remains fully weatherproof and free-draining.
Quality and Compliance
All works will be carried out in strict accordance with the Protan technical specification and current UK roofing standards, including relevant BS and EN guidelines.
Upon completion, the roofing system will be eligible for a 20-year Protan single point warranty, providing assurance that the installation meets the required standards for durability, performance, and long-term reliability.
