Here at Enviroply Roofing, we will be working with Westshield to install Danosa roofing systems for the Bloom Street Development in Manchester.
Project: Bloom Street 83 Serviced Apartments, Manchester
Address: Bloom Street, Manchester
Architects: Equilibrium Architects
Contractor: Westshield
Roof Size: Roof A & B – 438m² | Roof C – 41m² | Roof D – 41m² | Roof E – 4m² | Roof F – 4m²
Roof System: Danosa Danopol+ HS 1.5mm Single Ply Roofing System
About the Project:
The Bloom Street development will see two Grade II-listed former warehouses, Mindel House and 11 Bloom Street, brought back into use as part of a major residential conversion in central Manchester. Located on the corner of Bloom Street and Minshull Street, close to Manchester Piccadilly Station, the project will provide new homes while retaining the architectural character of these significant heritage buildings.
The development forms part of a wider programme of residential regeneration in the immediate area, with three conversion schemes planned close to Bloom Street. Opposite the development, 42 Bloom Street is being converted into 39 flats, while nearby Chorlton House, a 77,000 sq ft office building, has permission to become 261 short-stay apartments. Together, these projects will bring hundreds of new accommodation units to this part of Manchester city centre, while helping to bring existing buildings back into productive use.
Our Role in the Project:
Here at Enviroply Roofing, we will install the complete Danosa roofing system, including the air and vapour control layer, PIR insulation, Danopol+ HS waterproofing membrane and associated roof detailing.
The system will be installed in accordance with the Danosa specification and manufacturer’s requirements, with trained operatives ensuring the finished roof is completed to the required standards of quality and performance.
Air and Vapour Control Layer
A Danosa Polyethylene AVCL will be used as part of the warm roof build-up, providing an important layer of vapour control and helping to maintain continuity across the roof construction.
The AVCL will be installed to the warm side of the insulated structure, with laps, junctions and penetrations sealed to provide a continuous layer and support the overall performance of the roof.
Insulation
Following the AVCL, we will install Danosa Foil-Fix PIR insulation as part of the warm roof construction. The main roof areas will incorporate 190mm PIR insulation, while the tapered roof areas will use a tapered insulation scheme to help achieve the required falls for drainage.
The rigid PIR insulation will provide the required thermal performance while forming an integral part of the warm roof build-up. It will be mechanically secured using thermally broken fixings to provide a robust and secure roof construction.
Waterproof Membrane
For the waterproofing layer, we will install Danosa Danopol+ HS 1.5mm, finished in Anthracite, providing the primary waterproof protection across the roof areas.
The reinforced PVC single ply membrane will be mechanically fixed, with the laps hot-air welded to create secure and weather-tight joints. The system is designed to provide a durable and reliable waterproofing solution for the serviced apartment development.
Detailing
A range of Danosa components will be incorporated to complete the roofing system, including Danopol+ FV 1.5mm detailing membrane, perimeter trims, edge restraint bars, upstand and chase terminations and rainwater outlets.
These components will provide secure detailing around roof edges, upstands, penetrations and drainage points, helping to maintain the integrity of the waterproofing system throughout the roof.
Where required, Danopol Walkway will also be installed to provide designated access routes across the finished roof and help protect the membrane during maintenance activities.
Quality and Compliance
All works will be carried out in accordance with the Danosa project specification and installation requirements, with the installation undertaken by our trained team.
The completed system will provide a secure, free-draining and weather-tight roof covering, with inspections carried out during the works to ensure the installation meets the requirements of the Danosa warranty.
Following completion, the project will benefit from a 20-year Danosa Material Warranty, providing long-term assurance for the installed roofing system.
